Letters: Breeding Ringnecks

Dear Parrots magazine,

Breeding Ringnecks

I was interested to read the letter from Harry Leese regarding my reply to a query on breeding Ringnecks in the November 2012 issue. It is good to know that someone can successfully breed Ringnecks on the colony system! I would however never advise first time breeders of Ringnecks to breed several pairs in a colony, as I feel it would need a very experienced breeder to be able to notice any hint of aggression or upset between the birds, before it got out of hand.

Letters: Be on your guard

Dear Parrots magazine,

Be on your guard

I would just like to put people on their guard when buying birds. My neighbour, next door but two, has always been interested in parrots and every time he comes to see me, always goes on about my birds.

Letters: Parrot sanctuary

Dear Parrots magazine,

Parrot sanctuary

There seems to be a great deal said in the avian press and forums about the National Parrot Sanctuary. Well, I have been there and was far from happy at what I saw.

Letters: No more clipping

Dear Parrots magazine,

No more clipping

Reading many articles about wing-clipping, it would seem that opinion is weighted in favour of keeping birds fully flighted. Well, I have to say that I am against clipping a parrot’s wings.

Letters: Happy Family

Dear Parrots magazine,

Happy Family

About two and a half years ago I bought a hand-reared cockatiel and called him, Billy, after the TV series, Hale & Pace - they did a sketch with characters called, Billy and Johnny that I found hilarious. I bought him a cage and some toys to play with. He seemed to get on well with his new home and soon became one of the family, that is my daughter, Sally and myself. Billy and Sally got on really well and became firm ‘mates’.

Letters: Zinc toxicity

Dear Parrots magazine,

Zinc toxicity

I notice on the Parrots website Forum, that there is a post about zinc poisoning. I have seen much published about zinc toxicity over the years and am totally confused as to what is the best practice to avoid harm to my birds.
