Peanut awareness

Dear Parrots magazine,

Peanut awareness

There has been much said about monkey nuts (peanuts in shell) and how care should be taken if they are to be fed.

Hobbyist breeders

Dear Parrots magazine,

Hobbyist breeders

As a complete amateur I breed my birds purely for fun and enjoyment, but I would like to see more information about breeding, parent or hand-reared, correct diets for breeding pairs, and supplements, etc.

Great Lineolateds

Dear Parrots magazine,

Great Lineolateds

I was very excited to read about Lineolated Parakeets in the last issue of this magazine, as I have always been fascinated by these little birds.  It is true what Sigrid said when they are different from the rest and I go along with that totally.

Rescue Centres

Dear Parrots magazine,

Rescue Centres

For a long time I have been very worried about the number of parrots that seem to be getting dumped into rescue centres.  Their longevity obviously causes more of a problem than with other pets, like cats, dogs and small furries, that don’t live anything like as long.

Unfair attack

Dear Parrots magazine,

Unfair attack

I am writing to protest at the letter from your anonymous correspondent (February’s edition of Parrots) concerning Peter Hammond.  This was a personal, unprovoked and misguided attack on an honourable man.

Should not criticise

Dear Parrots magazine,

Should not criticise

I felt I had to write as the comments regarding ‘So Concerned’ (Letters Feb 2015 issue) were very negative.  I know Peter Hammond and have been to his premises, his birds were all immaculate which is rare in a large collection, they are kept in large aviaries as they are breeding birds inside a huge barn, they have UV lights and heating if needed.  This barn is a good distance from the houses and the birds cannot be seen so how the neighbours can say there are 500 birds not 200 I do not know and it is not the whole village just a few.  He is not on his own looking after the birds, he does have help.  The council has checked the noise factor and said it was okay.  I feel for Peter and hope he can fight it as he has kept birds all his life.
