Letters: My response

Dear Parrots magazine,

My response

In the last issue of Parrots Magazine, in the Letters Section, Rosemary Low took issue with a sentence I had written in my previous Red-fronted Macaw personality sketch article. When I suggested that the purchase of a Red-fronted Macaw pet is a ‘significant statement’ a pet owner can make for world parrot conservation, I was told, “What possible contribution to conservation is made by such a purchase [of a Red-fronted Macaw pet] Can you explain?” Of course I can explain, and I truly appreciate the opportunity.

Letters: They are just great!

Dear Parrots magazine,

They are just great!

In the November issue, I read with great interest Eb Craven’s article on Patagonian Conures. I agree with him totally that it is a very underrated bird and I can speak from experience as I have two, believed to be a pair, but they have never produced anything other than a great deal of enjoyment.

Letters: Wonderful creatures

Dear Parrots magazine,

Wonderful creatures

Thank you Rosemary Low (Parrots, Issue 239, December 2017) for stating "We must never forget a parrot is a parrot and needs to be treated like one, and not as a substitute child". I have never understood why many owners of companion parrots appear to desire their birds to be human beings with feathers.

Letters: The Moluccan’s habitat

Dear Parrots magazine,

The Moluccan’s habitat

Thank you for the quick response to my letter, and thank you for Rosemary Low’s response. I am left with some questions.

Letters: Parrot Harnesses

Dear Parrots magazine,

Parrot Harnesses

I must say that I agree entirely with Rosemary Low’s comments on the extended use of parrot harnesses in the December 2017 issue (239) of Parrots magazine. It is undoubtedly a subject that will polarise people’s opinions, with some vehemently opposed to parrots wearing harnesses, while others find their use invaluable.

Letters: Just in time

Dear Parrots magazine,

Just in time

I was at a craft fair and saw some items that I thought would make an interesting toy for my Amazon. It was made of wood and a type of raffia tie-up., which I thought would be OK.
