I am writing this letter in honour of Spike, a very precious parrotlet, and as a warning to others to check the toys and their fixings in their parrots’ cages daily. I have always taken every possible precaution to keep my birds safe, but losing Spike just goes to show, however careful we are, something can still go wrong...

Daily walk halts feather-plucking
Thank you for your latest parrot news pages in the January issue. Anything about feather-plucking gets my attention as my parrot has the same habit. This issue had many helpful stories. I was glad to read, "Daily walk halts feather-plucking." When the weather was warmer I took my parrot for walks around the block and enjoyed it.

Top expert writings appreciated!
I should like to say just how much I have enjoyed the recent articles by David Woolcock and Michael Simmons. For several years now I have taken the advice of Rosemary Low to "Go West for Parrots," (as in the title of her book about her travels in the Caribbean and, Central and South America), although in my case it has been to visit zoological collections in the West Country. Parrot lovers in the counties of Cornwall, Devon and Somerset are fortunate indeed to have so many excellent collections at their disposal.
