Dear Parrots magazine,
Body mass of parakeets
For a current research project that explores how birds respond to changing climates, I am looking for data on Ring-necked Parakeet (Psittacula krameri) body weights. We want to test the idea that energetic demands on these parakeets influence their distribution limits across native India and Pakistan, and to better understand how they are able to survive cold European winters.
Some of the key data we need are measurements of the weights of these parakeets. While I can obtain quite some measurements of ‘wild’ Ring-necked Parakeets from across Europe, I lack data from the native range. I wondered whether anyone could point me to sources that might hold such information.
Data from the native range would of course be ideal, but lacking these I hope that people acquainted with the different subspecies could help me get a better insight in the body masses of the different Ring-necked Parakeet subspecies.
