Dear Parrots magazine,
Chocolate – beware!
I read with great interest and some amusement the article, Rocky the hooligan parrot from hell! I was a little worried when Zesha Salem wrote, …the mum of two sometimes has to bribe him with his favourite snacks of hummus or chocolate coins.
Whilst I don’t want to criticise Zesha, it is generally felt amongst parrot keepers that chocolate can be harmful to parrots because theobromine found in chocolate can have a very detrimental effect on cardiac and nervous systems. I guess what I am trying to say is two things: Zesha, please please wean Rocky off chocolate, and, for all other parrot keepers, chocolate is a big NO for your feathered friends.
