Dear Parrots magazine,
Not aggressive
I had heard quite a few comments that Scarlet Macaws can be quite aggressive and don’t make very good pet companions. Well, I had my eye on a Scarlet Macaw at a garden centre that I visit regularly and each time this macaw grew on me.
After three weeks it was still there for sale and like most people, I could not resist, as it was happy to climb on to my arm in the shop and showed gentleness.
So yes, she came home with me and that was three years ago. But despite the comments I had heard, this macaw was a gentle giant. I think it is important to go by your gut instinct, and by all means, listen to others, but make your own decision. Molly, as we call her, is now an important part of our household.
