Dear Parrots magazine,
Leave wings alone
Now the warmer weather is with us, I have become somewhat nervous about losing my Orange-winged Amazon and so decided I should have her wings clipped.
A very good friend of mine had a friend who seemed to know an awful lot about parrots and offered to come and clip my bird’s wings, when finding out about my concern. Well, what a disaster that turned out to be.
This 'friend' came around and cut off a number of feathers on just one side of the bird, which would certainly not allow her to escape as she couldn’t fly at all, as she now falls off her cage and crashes to the floor when attempting to fly. Having read some articles on feather clipping, I just wish I had never had it done.
My vet told me the feathers would eventually grow back and I can’t wait for that to happen, I will never let a pair of scissors get near my bird again.
