Personality Profile

By Sally Blanchard

Green-cheek Conures are little gems in the Pyrrhura genus. Pyrrhura Conures are usually referred to as Conures in the world of aviculture and companion parrots, but in ornithology they are known as parakeets.  There are about 26 species of these slim-bodied, long-tailed colourful little gems.  The Green-cheeks are, and have been, the best known birds in this genus.  Green-cheeks are native to southern Mato Grosso Brazil, northern Bolivia and northwestern Argentina.  They are highly social birds and are usually found in flocks of 10 or more individuals.
