The month of June was marked by the opening of our new large macaw aviary. The 30 metre long x 12 metre wide x 6 metre high aviary has been completely re-designed. Instead of the previous artificial trees, there are now natural giant trees, growing through the top of the aviary to form a dense green canopy. A waterfall provides a high humidity, as always occurs in the tropics, and a colourful plant community planted outside the back of the aviary grows through the mesh into the aviary, forming a natural backdrop which the parrots like to nibble. On the aviary floor, seeds were sown that will develop a natural undergrowth in the aviary.
