Complete Psittacine by Eb Cravens

We continue our look into daily feeding procedures this month with an overview of some guidelines for when owners choose to offer canned or frozen vegetables to their psittacine flock.

We all know that our parrots need daily nutrition from vegetables, fruits and green stuffs in order to stay in optimum health. These are the essential foods that contain the vitamins, minerals and live enzymes they need most. But over the years I have noticed many keepers will rely upon canned and frozen vegetables along with fresh fruit to provide for their pets or breeder birds.

Now I realise when a busy bird owner, or one who has other daily employment has to feed psittacines promptly and leave or has a large flock to feed, preserved veggies are a great alternative to raw or steamed foods. They may not contain all the fresh enzymes and phytonutrients, but they are way way better than nothing. I use them at need and just not every day all the time. So here is a brief guide to serving these food items from what I have experienced over the past four decades of domestic parrot keeping.
