LIVING WITH A SPLENDID PARAKEET AND FRIENDS
As Terry Quinn’s children have grown up, she began to fill her leisure time with birds. Here Terry tells her story and describes the enormous pleasure that she gets, from a few of her special friends.
TINKA - my Splendid Parakeet, originally belonged to Lou-Ann, a friend of mine, and was kept, along with her mate, in a mixed flight of grass parakeets and finches. But, one day when Lou-Ann was cleaning out their indoor aviary she found poor Tinka in a bad way on the floor, hiding under some plants. Her head was tucked in tightly to her body, and her feathers were very obviously fluffed-up.
Tinka, who was only nine months old at the time, was immediately scooped up, and removed from the flight, and placed in a hospital cage with heat. Lou Ann is sure that if she hadn’t found Tinka when she did, she would have died, but to this day she has no idea what happened to her.
The affect of the heat and a little warm, runny mix of hand-feed baby formula did wonders and she very quickly revived.
