Parrots around the house

Spreads for web 4

by Jon Scott

Whether or not you are a seasoned parrot owner or someone that has recently bought a parrot, there are some points to be aware of, and which you may not have previously considered. I am also assuming at this point that you have a tame bird, either hand-reared or parent-reared, and if a youngster, it should be able to adapt to a human home environment without too much trouble.

Something we should never forget is that parrots are very long lived and a medium sized parrot, like an African Grey or Amazon, can easily live for 40 or 50 years, and it is claimed that some Macaws can live for 80 years plus. What this means, of course, is that your bird will quite possibly outlive you, and so should be put into your will as, when you are no longer around or can no longer look after your bird, you should have a plan in place for its continued care?
