The Hahn's Macaw

Spreads for web 3Personality Profile by Sally Blanchard

At 12 to 14 inches, the Hahn’s Macaw (Diopsittaca nobilis nobilis) is sometimes referred to as the Red-shouldered Macaw, and is the smallest macaw in size, but it is certainly not the smallest in personality.  The Noble Macaw (Diopsittaca nobilis cumanensis) is a sub-species of (Diopsittaca nobilis nobilis).  The Hahn’s has a black upper mandible while the Nobel’s is horn-coloured.  In the wild, they live in the Guianas, Venezuela, and Brazil north of the Amazon. Their populations are considered stable at present, but they are listed as CITES II.  There are areas within its range where the numbers of birds are declining due to habitat destruction and capture for the pet trade.
