Project Pellet

Spreads-for-web-4

By Karen Chudley

At ‘Think Parrots’ last year, I fell into conversation with a man who had brought his pet macaw along to the show and was almost apologetic when he told me that he fed his bird a seed based diet, having failed to convert his pet onto a manufactured diet.

The bird shimmered with vibrant health and the man really had no reason to be shy about his feeding regime.  Most avian vets endorse the use of formulated diets as the optimum base diet for companion parrots, yet many parrot owners struggle to convert their pets on to such a diet, particularly when their birds have become accustomed to a seed based diet.
