Red-tailed Black Cockatoo: First hatchling for illegally smuggled pair

During my routine early morning check of the birds at Paradise Park on 15 September, I noticed the female Red-tailed Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksii banksii) was conspicuous by her absence. But, on entering the aviary, she slowly appeared from their open-topped nesting barrel and with the aid of a long handled mirror I could see a single white egg in the nest.
