Ecotourism in Costa Rica by Robert Alison

Ecotourism is fundamental to the economy of Costa Rica and recent developments are certain to significantly impact on its stability. Since psittacids are an important element of the ecotourist’s attraction to Costa Rica, their conservation has emerged as a key part of the national wildlife conservation strategy.

But, recent mitigating factors have come to light that could impact on the future of the ecotourism thrust. Some have been positive, others not so positive. Regardless, ecologists and government officials are keeping a close watch on psittacid-related developments.
