Sorting out Vitamin A and the Liver’s Role

Brightly colored green, yellow, red and orange fresh fruits and vegetables all contain vitamin A, or do they?

It’s very confusing when a variety of sources use the phrase ‘vitamin A’ to describe both rentinol, vitamin A and the vitamin precursors that exist as carotenoid plant pigments. In this column when vitamin A appears, we are discussing rentinol vitamin A.

Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin that is found in whole eggs, liver, fatty fish, and cod liver oil. I don’t suggest that you offer your birds any of these animal proteins, except a home made egg food.
