The best kept secrets of the frozen food industry. Part 1

Spreads for web 1

The Holistic Parrot by Leslie Moran

When people tell me about the foods they feed their birds, so many well-intended parrot lovers are feeding large amounts of cooked frozen foods, cooked dehydrated foods or are freezing freshly made foodstuffs for later use. When you want your birds to receive the highest level of nutrition from the foods you feed them, you’ll want to limit the frozen foods to a very small proportion of what your bird eats. Let’s explore the facts behind this approach of using food and nutrition for maintaining or restoring good health as we uncover some of the best kept secrets of the frozen food industry.

Last summer in the May 2015, issue 208 of Parrots was the first instalment of a six part series on how to keep your birds healthy by supporting the avian immune system. In issues 212 and 213 we discussed the health-giving benefits of select nutrients and explained how they nourish the immune system. The ones we’ll be discussing this month include enzymes, antioxidants and vitamin C.
